ironicallyelijahi just realized i havent posted any of my art on here (outside of that silly shitpost comic) so im gonna yoink some sketchbook pages to post.
we got mother characters, francoeur and lucille from a monster in paris, and also canon ben drowned!!! what a lineup!!!!! (also enjoy me ranting about my love for a monster in paris)
mannnn i love that left drawing of ness but im petrified to ink it bc if i ruin it ill cry. unfortunately that means it must succumb to graphite smearing.
also hehe canon ben drowned. as much as i adore the silly fanon design, i love love loveeeeeee stylizing his canon design. but also you cannot trust me with the fanon design or i will make her a trans girl and you cant stop me.
FRANCOUER!!!! i watched a monster in paris for the first time in years a few weeks ago and like. it's. so great. so absolutely darling and sweet and adorable. AND GORGEOUS!!!! THE COLORS!!!! THE ANIMATION!!! THE CHARACTER DESIGN!!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!
AND THE MUSIC.
ABSOLUTELY BREATHTAKING. I FELT MY HEART ACTUALLY STOP DURING LA SEINE.
i couldnt stop thinking about it. so then i rewatched it again like 4 hours later. and then i ended up rewatching it every night after for like a week straight. i still watch it whenever i can. i was worried i'd burn myself out on it, but i think i love it even more every time i rewatch it?? i even ended up watching the original french version. little thing about that tho is that there's no official english subtitles so i had to watch with poorly localized english fan subtitles + the original french transcript open for when i had to translate something literally because it didnt make sense, like a pun. ill give u a taste of some of my adventures in localization:
raoul (english dub): "another job well done, for peat's sake!"
raoul (french dub with english subs, poorly localized): "that's how we deal with soil, by the horns!"
when translating the lines, i realized that terreau (soil) sounds like taureau, and then figured out the joke. there was a lot of silly stuff like that that i absolutely loved translating :>
SPEAKING OF PUNS, IN LA SEINE'S ENGLISH TRANSLATION, THEY CUT OUT AN EXTREMELY WHOLESOME PUN FROM FRANCOEUR!!!!!! HE RESPONDS TO LUCILLE'S "extralucide, la lune est sur" WITH "extra lucille, quand tu es sur"
HE CALLS HER EXTRA LUCILLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HE'S BASICALLY MAKING A PUN TO CALL HER MIRACULOUS AND ITS ADORABLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok i need to refrain or ill end up just writing an entire translation analysis
man they put so much special attention and care into francoeur's characterization WHICH IS WHAT MAKES HIM WORK SO WELL AS A NONVERBAL CHARACTER!!!!!!!!!!! also speaking of nonverbal, i headcanon he signs to communicate when he's not singing :>
i think lucas still cries a lot post the 3 year time skip, its just off screen :3 also i dont think kumatora is the best at dealing with kids.
but yknow what i also disagree with my own comic bc even tho i made this to make an angsty hc about how lucas, the child, is technically the leader of the group, i feel like duster and kumatora do genuinely step in and take on older sibling/guardian roles and take care of him. (see also, my angsty fanfic where kumatora and duster comfort lucas during a panic attack)
this comic is not a scene i can see taking place at all, but it was a fun little way to chew on my own thoughts. i just think lucas gets a little upset at how often tasks and important decisions are immediately delegated to him.
ALSO my composition with sketch comics is normally really bad but mannnnn this is egregious. i really gotta start like. sketching the whole thing rather than just drawing and going from there. here's how i meant actually for it to be read if youre curious also yes this dialogue is nearly directly lifted from this bee and puppycat scene.
